Caving in the Srnica cave

MYSTERIOUS

Srnica cave is crisscrossed with narrow passages that lead to a wide open galleries. And it hides a wonderful treasure – fossils of heart-shaped shells only seen in this cave.

CHALLENGING

Caving in the Srnica cave is an unusual sightseeing tour. A walk thru the passages without endless lines of tourists. By using a rope you will explore the world that rarely meets humans.

SAFE

Caving is suitable for beginners, but you must be in a good physical condition. However, we don’t recommend caving if you suffer from claustrophobia or are afraid of heights.

How it goes

EXPLORE OUR WEBSITE

Caving will take about 5 hours of your time so we don’t recommend booking any other activity on the same day. Besides is one of the most physically tiring. But, if you plan to stay in Bovec more than just 1 day and would like to spice them up with more adrenalin just email us all the activities you’d like to do and we’ll prepare a program for you.

LET US KNOW YOU’RE COMING

You should book caving at least 5 days in advance. Caving takes a lot of extra preparations and only a few guides are licenced to run caving tours. The groups are very small with only up to 5 people going to the cave at the same time.

You can book your trip by

  • filling out a reservation form
  • sending us e-mail on hello@bovec-rafting-team.com
  • calling us on +386 41 338 308
  • sending SMS on +386 41 338 308

DON’T FORGET TO BRING

  • hiking shoes
  • long warm clothes (there’s only 8 degrees in the cave)
  • water
  • ponytail elastic if your hair is long

COME TO BOVEC

Our sports center is located in Bovec. We have a big private parking lot where you can park your car. There are also toilets, showers, lockers and changing cabins here. Not to mention the chill-out area with free WiFi.

CHECK-IN AT OUR OFFICE

First we will need you to sign a declaration of awareness. Please note that caving is physically demanding activity. We can’t take on caving tour people who are

  • under the influence of alcohol and drugs
  • pregnant
  • physically or mentally disabled
  • blind (you have to be able to see at least something)

Check the list of medical conditions that might prevent you from joining our caving tour.

Then we will kindly ask you to pay 🙂 You can pay in Euro or by credit card. VISA, Mastercard, Maestro and American Express are all accepted.

MEET YOUR GUIDES

They will explain the details about the trip and hand you all the equipment you need.
In our gear room you will get

  • helmet
  • headlamp
  • harness (climbing safety belt)
  • gloves
  • coverall suit

GETTING TO THE SRNICA CAVE

There’s a big parking in front of the Bovec Rafting Team sports center. There you will leave your car. You won’t need it until the end of your caving tour. We will take you to the starting point at the Srnica cave and then back to Bovec with our vans.

STILL OUT OF THE CAVE

You will put your coverall suit on. It will protect your clothes from stains. Then you will put on your helmet with a headlamp. You will leave your clothes and other belongings in our van. Just before you descent into the underworld the guide will also explain the basics of climbing safety and show you what the harness is for.

FUN IN THE CAVE

Srnica cave is full of small and narrow passages that open to wider galleries. Apart from walking also expect some crawling and rock climbing. You will be impressed by the beauty of natural formations and fossils of seashells in the shape of hearts. You might be lucky to meet some bats along the way, although they are not seen very often.

WHEN OUT OF THE CAVE

It takes about 4 hours to get out of the cave. The exit hole stands on top of 30 meters high cliff. So, for the grand finale you will need to descend down that cliff with the help of your guide, using ropes and harness.
The vans will already be there. When you’re ready we’ll drive you back to our sports center.

GET PHOTOS AND VIDEOS FROM YOUR CAVING TOUR

We don’t take photos or videos from caving tours because the cave is too dark for regular cameras and the guide has too much other work to do. We also don’t recommend taking your camera. There are big chances you will damage it unless you have a camera case, which will interrupt you during the climbing.

MAKE SURE YOU DIDN’T FORGET ANYTHING AT OUR SPORTS CENTER

Unless it’s a bag full of diamonds. We’ll ba happy to keep that. But if you do forget something less sparkling just send us an e-mail. We’ll be happy to send it back to you.

TELL EVERYONE HOW AWESOME WE ARE 🙂

Facebook, TripAdvisor and Google reviews are much appreciated. Thank you!
