Is canyoning too demanding for me?

Is canyoning too demanding for me?

Answers to all your questions:

How physically demanding is canyoning?

Is there a guide with us?

Do I have to do every waterfall?

What if I decide in the middle of the tour that I don’t want to do it anymore?

When is canyoning the easiest?

Am I too old for canyoning?

It’s that wonderful time of the year – summer breeze, Hawaiian t-shirt, sea salt on your lips, and a fresh margarita in your hands. Life is just perfect. Doing nothing – that’s exactly where millions of years of evolution were supposed to bring you. But after three days of doing nothing but lazy sunbathing, it gets a bit… well, boring. It’s time to head towards the mountains, bid adieu to blue bayou, and trade flip-flops for neoprene boots! Canyoning should add some spice to that margarita of yours.

But what if canyoning is just a bit too spicy? Perhaps you’re afraid of heights? Or your knee is not so youthful anymore? Or maybe you have trust issues when it comes to harnesses and carabiners? Catch your breath, dear reader, as we dive into the intriguing question: is canyoning too demanding for the average Joe?

IS CANYONING TOO DEMANDING FOR BEGINNERS?

SUŠEC CANYON – NO

Canyoning in the Sušec Canyon is suitable for beginners and children from 9 years old. If you’re reasonably fit, capable of a 30-minute walk uphill, and don’t have any major back or knee injuries, then you should be fine.

FRATARCA CANYON – YES

Fratarca Canyon is suitable for those who are looking for something more technical and demanding. We recommend that you have some previous climbing experience and extra strength in your arms to handle all the rappelling.

We suggest rethinking your decision to book canyoning only if you have a fear of heights. The highest waterfall in Sušec canyon stands at 11 meters, while in Fratarca canyoning, it reaches 50 meters. Although you won’t be jumping from either of these, your guide will assist you in descending them using ropes.

WILL THERE BE A GUIDE WITH US?

YES

The guide will be with you from the beginning of your trip to the very end. You’ll meet them at our sports center in Bovec after you check-in for your activity. They’ll hand you your equipment and explain absolutely everything that you need to know. They’ll be available to answer any question or request you might have.

DO I HAVE TO DO EVERY WATERFALL?

SUŠEC CANYON – NO

In Sušec you can walk around some of the jumps and you can skip the last (the highest) waterfall.

FRATARCA CANYON – YES

In Fratarca you have to do all of them.

But don’t worry. Our guides will provide detailed explanations before entering the canyon and again before each jump and slide. If you feel tired during the trip, don’t worry. You’ll have the opportunity to take a short break and enjoy swimming in the water pools.

CAN I DECIDE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TOUR THAT I DON’T WANT TO DO IT ANYMORE?

SUŠEC CANYON – YES

In Sušec canyon, there’s an opportunity to exit halfway through the tour. If you find during the trip that canyoning isn’t your thing, or if you simply wish to stop for any reason, you have that option. Just inform your guide, and they’ll ensure you can safely leave the tour at the earlier exit point.

FRATARCA CANYON – NO

Unfortunately, in Fratarca canyon, there’s no exit once you start the tour. You’re committed until the end. Before booking this tour, consider whether it’s right for you. If you have any doubts or additional questions, our team is here to help. Both our office staff and guides will gladly address any concerns you may have before the trip.

WHEN IS CANYONING THE EASIEST?

JULY & AUGUST

Canyoning is the easiest when the water level is low which typically occurs during our peak season in July and August. With less water the waterfalls are less intense and the slides are easier to do.

AM I TOO OLD FOR CANYONING?

NO

We don’t have an upper age limit. If you feel good and you’re reasonably fit then you’re good to go. Who said only children can have fun on their vacation?

Canyoning is great outdoor activity for everyone. The Sušec canyon is perfect for beginners and you will be in safe hands of our well trained guides. So, book your canyoning tour with us and use the “Notes” section of the booking form in case you still have some questions or concerns.
