What is Kobarid Rafting Permit: Everything You Need to Know

Let’s be honest: nobody comes to the Soča Valley because they enjoy filling out forms and studying local regulations. You’re here to splash in emerald waters, enjoy the mountains, and maybe scream a little (from joy, of course) on the rapids.

But then… you hear about the Kobarid Rafting Permit. Sounds serious, right? Like something you’d need a lawyer for.

Don’t worry! It’s just a little piece of digital paper that lets us enjoy the Soča river.. To save you from drowning in bureaucracy, we’ve put together this “Human-to-Human” guide. We’ll skip the boring legal talk and get straight to what you actually need to know so we can get back to the fun stuff – rafting!

What is the Kobarid Rafting Permit?

Since 15.03.2024, every person using the section of the Soča River in the community of Kobarid needs to have a permit. While most rafting tours start in the Bovec area, they flow down and end in the Kobarid community. Therefore, you will need this special permit to legally exit the Soča River.

Do I need it for all outdoor activities in the Soča Valley?

NO
You need this permit only for rafting. You don’t need it for canyoning, kayaking, or zipline tours.

Do children also need the Kobarid Rafting Permit?

YES
This is one of the most common questions we get, and the answer is: every single person in the raft must have their own individual permit, regardless of their age.

Unfortunately, there are no discounts for children or youth. The price for the permit is the same for everyone (adults and children alike). So, when you are buying permits for your family, make sure you buy one for every member of your group – including the little ones!

Should I buy it before I book my rafting tour?

NO
We highly recommend you book your rafting trip first. At Bovec Rafting Team, we are flexible – you can change or cancel your reservation anytime without cancellation fees.

However, Kobarid Rafting Permits are non-refundable. Therefore, we suggest you buy them just a day before or even on the day of your tour. Don’t worry, the number of permits is not limited per day, so they won’t “sell out.”

Can Bovec Rafting Team buy the permit for me?

NO
We are very sorry, but since August 26th, 2024, we can no longer buy the Kobarid rafting permits for you. The system requires you to purchase it in your name using your own credit card.

Are there different types of permits?

YES
When buying a permit, please make sure you select the Daily Permit for Sektor 2 | Kobarid. This is the correct sector for the rafting exit point.
