Can children go kayaking with us?

The top priority of picking up a perfect destination for a family vacation should always be a majestic ice-cream shop. They should have at least 500 different flavors and at least 500 different toppings. Mums and dads, of course, hope there are at least 500 different amusement activities to do nearby. Our sweetheart needs to burn all that sugar by the sunset and sleep like an angel all night.

And in Bovec, while we do have a pretty good ice cream shop, we have even more thrilling activities to ensure your kids’ sugar rush is well spent. Among them, the winner is kayaking because your junior will have to paddle his boat alone. That will give you a full day of adventure and exhaustion for a peaceful night’s sleep.

IS MY CHILD OLD ENOUGH?

When planning your summer break in Bovec, you should add kayaking to your wish list. But, the eternal problem of outdoor sports activities is usually the fact that the youngest members of the family are too young.

So to save you some drama, here’s a list of activities with the minimum ages.

IS KAYAKING TOO DEMANDING FOR MY CHILD?

YES AND NO

It’s a bit of both. Kayaking ranks as one of our most physically demanding activities, requiring good upper body strength to navigate safely through the rapids. Even on the easiest section of the Soča River, the current pushes you towards rocks, demanding quick arm movements.

But, do not despair! Despite their appearance, children possess surprising strength when it counts. If they get ice cream for breakfast, they will have enough energy to paddle faster than you might expect. Moreover, during July and August, when the river’s water level is lower, the rapids are less intense. So, while kayaking offers excitement, it’s not overwhelmingly intense – a sentiment that applies to all our activities.

WILL MY CHILD HAVE TO DO PADDLE?

YES

We only have single seated kayaks, hence the age restriction. Our kayaks and spray skirts are too big for children younger that 10 years. We will take you on the calmest stretch of the Soča River, where rapids are gentle and paddling requirements minimal. Our guides will teach you proper paddling techniques, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable journey for you and your family.

WHAT IF MY CHILD DOESN’T KNOW HOW TO SWIM?

Then we’re afraid, kayaking is not the right activity for your child to do. For safety reasons we don’t take guests who don’t know how to swim on kayaking tours.

You might be able to join us on a rafting tour if the water level is low. We take small children rafting on the Soča river when low water level. Most of them are non swimmers. They sit at the back of the boat next to the guide to make sure they’re safe.

CAN YOU ARRANGE A BABYSITTER?

YES

Are your children under 10 years old? Or perhaps they’re simply not keen on kayaking? Maybe you’re just eager to hit the water without hearing constant complaints from the kids? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.

There is a possibility to arrange a babysitter but you have to tell us in advance. Last minute desperate phone call will let you in a disappointment as babysitters in Bovec are as rare as mermaids.
